The advent of any new technology changes the society in which it emerges, and the Internet is no exception to this. Internet technology is changing human culture in ways that are only now beginning to emerge as full-fledged cultural phenomena. Take the whole life streaming or life casting phenomenon, in which people Chris Pirillo and Jody Gnant put their entire lives on the line, sometimes including leaving the camera on while they're asleep, so their every toss, turn, snore and fart while they sleep is disseminated to the Internet through their life streaming site. Maybe it's a generational thing, maybe I'm just too old to dig it, but I frankly don't understand the appeal of watching someone else sleep. Another thing about life casting that I simply don't agree with is the contention by some life casting advocates that everything in their lives should be fair game. While I love the idea of having a weekly or daily blog (and I blog almost every day), the thought of having my every thought and action online through a life casting site is not a very appealing prospect. I think some aspects of one's life should be private. Personally, I have my limits.
